Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans Italian-style stewed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, onion, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, and pepper. Mix well with a spoon or your hands until everything is evenly incorporated.

2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, form the meat mixture into balls and place them in the skillet. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 5 minutes, or until they are cooked through. Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the skillet and set aside.

3. To the same skillet, add the stewed tomatoes, basil, and chicken broth. Stir everything together and bring the mixture to a simmer. Once it is simmering, carefully add the meatballs back into the skillet. Cover the skillet and continue to cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. After 15 minutes, the meatballs should be cooked through and the sauce should be slightly thickened. Serve the meatballs with some of the sauce spooned over the top. Enjoy!
